6th Grade
This art course meets every other day for one semester. Art 6 includes studio skill development in drawing, painting, and sculpture. It also includes computer graphics skill development in Paint.net. This class introduces students to the world of visual arts. Students will examine the importance of art in society, and identify some of the major influential artists and art forms of the past. Art 6 places a major emphasis on Craftsmanship and the Elements and Principles of Design in art.

3/11/20- 6th grade has been working hard creating graphic design images using Photoshop. The double images created utilizing the mask technique have just been completed and are awesome. We will be glazing our clay head this week and they should be coming home in a couple weeks...keep an eye out for them. We are now creating our fantasy creature where students will really dig deep on the editing tools and techniques that Photoshop offers. We are having a great semester so far.
2/12/20-6th grade is finishing up their clay head sculptures. We have been focusing on sculpture in the round elements and creating detailed clay sculptures. Students are utilizing the Elements of Design form and line to create their work of art. We will be finishing up the sculptures next week and will be introduced to the computers and utilizing the art program Photoshop to create works of art utilizing technology.
11/8/19- 6th grade students have completed their graphic design units and are now beginning their Expressionistic Paintings. They are bringing a past memory, experience or moment to life with paint. Students are discussing how to tell a story while utilizing symbolism in paint. We will also be creating our Holiday Installation beginning November 18th. Students will assist with painting and drawing the artwork to be displayed in the Gallery. Really busy time of the year and looking forward to all the fun and seeing the students create awesome artwork.
10/9/19 - We are in the process of completing our fantasy creature created on the computers using Photoshop. Students were asked to create a creature never seen before by combining bits and pieces of images together to form something new and cool. They were asked to focus on quality craftsmanship, quality editing skills and unique cloning techniques. The creature was added to a unique and original environment created by each student. They are turning out so neat.
9/3/19 - WELCOME BACK! I am so excited to meet all of our new 6th grade students. Sixth grade students will be starting out creating art utilizing the computer and Photoshop. We will be investigating the world of computer graphics and creating our own works of art that will be computer generated. I am so excited to see what all the students create.

7th Grade
This art course meets every other day for one semester. Art 7 includes studio skill development in drawing, painting, and sculpture. It also includes graphic design and digital skill development Photoshop Elements. Students will engage in exploratory activities in both the graphic arts and the studio arts world. The students will practice aesthetics, art criticism, art history, art production, and interdisciplinary activities that promote visual literacy.

3/11/20- 7th grade just completed their plaster masks and they turned out great. Students put many days into the plastering, painting and adding extras to create aesthetically pleasing mask sculptures. They should have made it home by now or be arriving soon. We have now moved onto the computer graphic units and are starting by working with shading and all the tools and techniques involved with this process. Students will be asked to create and turn flat shapes into 3-D looking forms utizilzing shading techniques. Students are really embracing the challenge of this unit and are doing a fabulous job.
2/12/20- 7th grade students have been working on their plaster masks. Students had their faces plastered by another student and then using sculptural elements are asked to create a unique mask based upon the theme of themselves. They will be creating a sculptural work of art that represents a like, belief or feeling that represents them. We will be focusing on the Elements of Design form and space while also focusing on the Principle of Design Unity.
11/8/19- 7th grade students have completed their graphic design units and have now begin creating their 3-color reduction prints. They are creating detailed drawings that will be transfered to styrofoam and then printed using a 3-color scheme. We will focus on details, printmaking techniques and quality craftsmanship. We will also be creating our Holiday Installation beginning November 18th. Students will assist with painting and drawing the artwork to be displayed in the Gallery. Really busy time of the year and looking forward to all the fun and seeing the students create awesome artwork.
10/9/19 - 7th grade students have been creating original works of art using Photoshop on the computers. They worked on their shading skills by creating 3-D looking donuts and ball forms. They were asked to take a shape and shade it with the brush tool so that it took on a 3-dimensional look on a flat 2-dimensional surface. They were expected to place each shaded item into an environment. Focus was on shading, quality editing skills and the 6 Essentials of Craftsmanship. They turned out awesome and we have now turned our attention to learning about Pop Art and creating a Pop Art design.

This art course meets every other day for one semester. Explorations in Art includes studio skill development in drawing, printmaking, and sculpture. It also includes skill development in digital editing, Photoshop Elements, and graphic design. An inquiry approach provides students with a foundation for understanding and appreciating the visual arts and their relationship in society. This course includes the study of a broad range of artistic styles, mediums, and ideas from past and present cultures.

3/11/20- 8th grade students have just completed their first computer design and have been working on their second design. We have taken a new approach with this project. Students did research watching Photoshop tutorials to find a technique or idea that peaked their interest. They were then expected to research the hows and techniques that are utilized to create their visual chosen. They then were asked to plan and prepare for their graphic design and have now begun creating their work of art. We are focusing on the Artistic Behaviors that they must utilize to take and idea and turn it into a final creation. I am excited how students have embraced this concept. They are really knocking it out of the park and coming up with some awesome final works of art.
2/12/20- 8th grade students have started their art experience this semester by working with Photoshop and creating graphic designs utilizing the computer. They were asked to research and gain knowledge on the Art Movement Surrealism. Once they had researched the movement, they then began creating works of art digitally based upon Rene Magritte and Surrealism. Utilizing proper editing skills and utilzing creativity, students are in the process of creating and completing Surrealistic works of art.

WE will be working with watercolor techniques, realism and incorporating a quality composition into our paintings. Along with the paintings, students will continue to assist with the large mural across from the art room. It is looking also so far and the students are doing an excellent job. We will also be creating our Holiday Installation beginning November 18th. Students will assist with painting and drawing the artwork to be displayed in the Gallery. Really busy time of the year and looking forward to all the fun and seeing the students create awesome artwork.

They were asked to take a drawing and reproduce it in their own style using various types and styles of lines and incorporating quality composition and craftsmanship. Many unique and interesting approaches were taken by each student and the outcome of the drawings were outstanding. If you have a chance to stop in and see the drawings in the Gallery this month it will be well worth your time. 8th grade now is involved in creating Inktober drawings and assisting in creating a new mural on the hallway wall opposite the art room. I am so excited about their drawings and the creation of this large mural.
